Переглядів 5502 місяці тому
I decided I wanted to upgrade my Lulzbot Taz 6 3D printer to use 1.75mm filament. To do that, Lulzbot offers the M175 Tool Head, which uses the Slice Engineering Mosquito hot end paired with the Bondtech direct drive extruder. While this is usually a largely simple process, mine turned into a bit of an adventure! *Resources mentioned!* All firmware, Start gcode, STL and CAD files are located in...

Upgrading an old 3D printer: NEWEREAL T-REX M18-S
Переглядів 4366 місяців тому
The Newereal M18-S T-Rex came out a few years ago. It was a pretty generic, cheap 3D printer that came and went. The basic structure of the 3D printer worked fine but the direct drive hot-end combination was simply awful. This machine looks very similar to the Fokoos Odin-5 F3 that came out a year later, but with a smaller print volume. My goal is to rid this machine of the terrible hot end by ...

    Regarding those m3 screws, I have them. Yay!! So, here is the question. How far do I insert them? Do I screw them until they stop on the floor, as in touching the case? Or is there a different depth ? Also, I think you used the lock nuts on the screws. If so, did you still need the black spacers ?

    • @WhereNerdyisCool
      @WhereNerdyisCool 15 днів тому

      Hi! It’s been a little while so I can’t recall everything. You can scroll through the comments of what others did. If memory serves I just used some 25mm screws and cut the heads off. Filed and used those. Also - check the Dell Forum link in the description. A lot of the steps I did came from there. Be safe and good luck!

    • @SamBrandon-x6j
      @SamBrandon-x6j 15 днів тому

      @@WhereNerdyisCool Wow! That was a fast reply. Thanks. Yeah, I read every comment, nearly 500 of them. No mention of how far to insert the screws. No mention of locknuts or spacers. You did tell a few people how you got the screws. No problem there. I have the screws. Just confused about what to do with them. So, since it has been awhile since you did this, maybe let's forget about this specific project. Please let us speak generally. Generally, when you insert a screw into a motherboard, how deep do you put it? Do you go all the way to the wall? Or is there some other depth you stop at? Any insight? -Sam

    Anyone else tempted to literally strip the CPU, SSD and GPU out of the PC and put it into an entirely new case/motherboard? The only think I like about the Dell 8940 is that it has pretty decent front IO.

    I lucked into an 8940 a little over two years ago for $100 on marketplace - guy was moving cross country and didn’t want to take anything with him. I think at the meet up he realized he probably should’ve charged more based on how many people messaged him😅 Anyway, it was a weird Best Buy SKU: i7-10700, 8GB Ram, No Gpu, 1TB Mechanical HDD, WiFi equipped. To be sure, the two most important upgrades are getting rid of that awful stock cooler and upgrading the rear exhaust to 92mm. I went with a Vetroo V5, a recommended budget option, and the same Noctua 92mm. Big difference. I removed the mechanical drive and went with an NVME, bumped the ram up to 32GB running at the correct 2933Mhz spec, and even got Dell parts to send me that vrm heatsink without having to pay exorbitant Amazon prices. GPU prices were still wild, so I settled for a 1650 Super and later upgraded to a RX6650 XT. Machine has been solid, though to be honest I don’t push it a ton. I’ve considered the 120mm front fan, but don’t see a need to at the moment. The stock 80mm fan is now in my office PC - a optiplex 7070 sff with a wx4100 that desperately needed some cooling. It’s much louder than the Noctua… but unfortunately the Noctua doesn’t play nice with the optiplex and only spins up when the CPU starts cooking.

    I began my 3D printing journey barely 2 weeks ago after I was given an Ultimaker 2, which seems to be in great shape with low hours on it. I’ve learnt a lot in this time already, but found I’m getting the itch to upgrade the machine. Since you’ve done this yourself, is it still worth paying for the Ultimaker 2+ extrusion upgrade kit in this day and age given you can pick up brand new 3D printers for less than the cost of the upgrade kit? As in, is the Ultimaker that much better (still) than new 3D printers in the £400-£600 price bracket? Thanks in advance for your input, and great video.

    • @WhereNerdyisCool
      @WhereNerdyisCool Місяць тому

      That’s a really fair question. I love the Ultimaker printers and that upgrade really does a lot for that machine. I still use it a lot even today! However in a world of amazing Bambi Labs machines bringing the costs way down - it’s really a toss up. If you can find the upgrade for a good price, I’d do it! But if you’re just learning and ready to step into something more modern, I show people the P1PS they make. Let me know what you opt to do!
